Rights issues are silly sometimes

I wanted to watch NFL Red Zone and the MLS Playoff game at the same time and I wanted to watch the soccer game on my 60 inch TV.

The challenge was that I would need that tuner to Slingbox Red Zone to my computer.

I thought maybe I could watch NBC Sports Extra on my Apple TV or Roku.  Nope, there is no app.  There is also no Red Zone app.  There is some sort of Playstation Red Zone something that I think exists, but it is extra even though I already pay for Red Zone.

My friends on twitter helped me solve the problem and I thought the solution was so ridiculous that I thought I would share it.

The easy part was to Slingbox the NFL Red Zone from my set-top box to my MacBook.  Simple enough.

The ridiculous part was to use my iPhone.  I grabbed the NBCSX app on my phone, and used Apple TV to watch the soccer game on a TV via a phone via Apple TV.

What strikes me as absurd is that I am sling boxing the NFL 5 feet, and Apple TVing the soccer game 5 feet in another direction.

Why not have an NBCSX and/or Red Zone app for Roku/Apple TV?  It’s not like they are pre-empting me from watching what I want the way I want.  I am even willing to pay for programming, just not willing to pay twice.

By the way, NBSX App via phone via AppleTV to a 60 inch TV looks great.  I thought it would pixelate as it got bigger, but it looks sharp.

I’d attach a picture but then I’d have to exit the app!
